Area Bavarian Forest
The Bavarian Forest region is an ideal place for vacation for people at every age. Both in winter and summer, it is a charming and diversified destination. In particular, if you like hiking, biking or skiing you will enjoy the lovely landscape of the Bavarian Forest.
The Großer Arber, at 1456 m the highest mountain within the Bavarian Forest, is an attractive place not just in summer. Its skiing area has numerous downhill slopes and the center for cross-country skiing at Bretterschachten has enough snow until March in most years. On a regular basis, there are different ski competitions at Großer Arber. In recent years, several teams from various countries have taken this opportunity to be guests at our hotel. The most famous one was the German top downhill racer Maria Höfl-Riesch.
Zwiesel is one of the most well-known places in the Bavarian Forest. In former times, there were many glass factories fired with wood. Today, the energy source is environmentally friendly and therefore Zwiesel got the title “Luftkurort” (=climatic spa).
Zwiesel still enjoys the glass tradition. The “Zwieseler Glastage” take place regularly with glass exhibitions and fairs with all aspects of the theme of glass. During the “Glasnacht” in mid of August, the entire town celebrates and the “First German Glass Road” passes through Zwiesel. There is a Glass Queen and one comes across glass of many types on almost every corner of Zwiesel.
Zwiesel is surrounded by one of the oldest natural parks in Germany. Here you can visit the Natural Park House, which has qualified as a ‘Zero-Energy-House’. Not far away from Zwiesel, you will find Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald, the first national park in Germany and one of the largest in Europe. A further attraction is "Lusen", a mountain without any vegetation, but covered with numerous lumps of rock.
During your stay you will receive a “Nationalpark Card” with offers discounts at various sites and free rides on regional trains throughout the whole Bavarian Forest and on municipal busses. In winter, these busses also take you to the downhill and cross-country skiing areas.
This is only a snapshot of many interesting things you can enjoy during your stay at our hotel.
